What is OSB?Â
OSB is created from wood ground into thin wood strands. These strands are mixed with wax and adhesive and then hot pressed. Approximately fifty layers of strands create one sheet of OSB.
OSB has some benefits over plywood :Â
- OSB is mostly a lot of square and has smaller dimensional tolerances.
- It will be manufactured into panels of up to 8' x 24', so much larger than plywood.
- There aren't any soft spots like those who will occur in plywood.
- OSB is created from smaller (often farmed) trees reducing the demand for old growth timber.
- OSB has larger shear strength than plywood; the span rating, nail pull and screw hold are all roughly an equivalent- It are often $3 to $5 a panel less costly than plywood. For a typical 2400 sq. foot home, OSB can save concerning $700 if used because the subfloor, sheathing, and roof decking rather than plywood.Â
